This page covers the Your Storytales app and this website. Plain language, because you should not need a lawyer to read your child’s bedtime app. Your Storytales is provided by StoryTales Studios Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, which is the controller of the data described here.

What we store

When you use the app we keep:

  • Your account: your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the identifier they give us for you. We never see your Google or Apple password.
  • Your family: your family name, the icon you chose, and the family members you add: a first name, an optional age, an optional note of who they are, and an icon.
  • Your stories: the choices and text you enter when creating one (characters, places, ideas), and the story made from them: its text, cover image and narration audio.
  • How stories are used: which stories were listened to, favourites and ratings, whether a story is public or shared by link, and which accounts opened a shared link.
  • Your plan: whether you have a subscription, when it renews, and how many stories you have left. We never see or store your card details; Apple or Google handle payment.
  • Notifications: if you switch them on, a token that lets us tell your device a story is ready.
  • Messages you send us: feedback, reports about a story, and emails.

On this website we keep your email address if you join the waitlist, and we use Firebase Analytics to see how the site is used: which pages are visited and what gets clicked or played. That is anonymous usage measurement, not tied to your email, and there are no advertising trackers.

What we never store

We do not store photographs: there is no way to upload a picture of a child, by design. We do not ask for an address, a phone number or a date of birth. We do not show adverts and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

What we use it for

  • To make, store and play your stories, and run your account.
  • To keep track of your plan and the stories you have left.
  • To keep the service safe, including checking what is typed before a story is made and reviewing reports.
  • To check and improve the quality of the stories.
  • To answer you when you contact us, and to send service emails such as sign-in links and password resets.
  • From the waitlist: one email to tell you Your Storytales has launched. We do not send newsletters.

How stories are made

Stories are written, illustrated and narrated by AI. The choices and text you enter are sent to Google’s Gemini service to check them for safety and to generate the story, its cover and its narration. We send only what is needed to make the story. We do not send your email address or account details with it.

Who can see your stories

Every story is private by default: no other family can open it. If you make a story public, other families using Your Storytales can find and listen to it, and they see your family name as the author. If you share a story by link, anyone with that link can open it, in the app or on this website, without an account. You can undo either at any time.

Authorised members of our team can view any story, including private ones, together with what was entered to make it. We do this only to keep the service safe, check and improve story quality, fix problems and answer support requests. We do not publish or share private stories outside the team.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of companies to run the service. They process data for us, under contract, and only for the purpose listed:

  • Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
  • Google (Gemini): writing, illustrating and narrating stories, and safety checks.
  • Apple and Google: payments, and sign-in if you choose it.
  • RevenueCat: keeping track of subscriptions and purchases. It receives your account identifier and purchase history, not your stories.
  • Expo: delivering “story ready” notifications to your device.
  • Resend: sending our service emails.
  • Google Firebase: hosting this website and its anonymous usage measurement.

Some of these companies process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards the law requires for those transfers. We may also disclose data if the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, family and stories for as long as you have an account. Deleting a story removes it, with its image and audio. Deleting your account, from Settings in the app, removes your account, your family members and every story you made, and cannot be undone. A waitlist email stays until we have sent the launch email or you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first.

Children

Accounts belong to adults. The app is set up and operated by a parent or guardian, and children use it alongside them. Anything about a child, such as a first name or an age, is entered by the parent or guardian and used only to make that family’s stories.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: edit your family, delete a story, or delete your account. For anything else, email support@your-storytales.com or message us on Instagram. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell you in the app. See also our Terms of Service.
